G2 Research 7.62x39mm Trident Ammo
It has been a few years since G2 Research revealed their Radically Invasive Projectile (R.I.P.) Ammo. Since then, they have brought to market 9mm V.I.P. Tracer and Civic Duty rounds, as well as .300 Blackout and .223 Remington rifle ammunition. This January, just in time for the 2016 SHOT Show, G2 Research has added 7.62x39mm rifle ammunition to their line up.
G2's 7.62x39mm Ammo features the same type of "Trident" projectiles utilized in their .223 ammo as well as one of their three .300 Blackout offerings. The Trident projectile is machined from a solid piece of copper with three petals that, upon impact, fold back and expand the projectile to three times its original size. G2 boasts that this solid copper construction also provides nearly 100% weight retention.
Are their more affordable options for your AK? Certainly. It isn't much of a stretch, however, to imagine what a these Tridents would do, moving at 2,200+ FPS, to a hog or other game.
Here are the specs:
Weight: 124 gr.
Velocity: 2270 fps.
The release the 7.69x39mm was timely in coordination with SHOT but, as Chris from G2 told us, it was driven by the number of requests from shooters. Since the release of their .223 and .300 Blackout Tridents, the team at G2 has been consistently asked two questions, "When the 7.62 will be available?" and, "When will the .308 be available?" This release answers the first question. As for the second question, Chris hinted that the .308 will be on its way soon.
